Running a Washington Photography Business While Pregnant | Bellevue, Seattle & PNW Wedding Photographer
There’s something surreal about building two things at once.
Right now, I’m growing our first baby — due this fall — and I’m also growing and refining my Washington photography business for the years ahead.
This season feels tender, exciting, exhausting, strategic, emotional… and incredibly human.
If you’re new here, I’m Ariel — a Washington wedding, family and special event photographer serving Bellevue, Seattle, Issaquah, Puyallup, Poulsbo, and surrounding Pacific Northwest communities.
I’m also stepping into a new corporate role while preparing for motherhood.
Here’s a little about who I am, how I got here, and what this season is teaching me.
From Childhood Creativity to Washington Wedding Photographer
I realized I was creative back in third grade — completely obsessed with arts and crafts.
Painting
Calligraphy
Drawing
Then came the era of quick-snap cameras. I fell in love instantly. My parents bought me my first “big girl” camera, and from that moment on, it went everywhere with me.
Dinner outings
Sporting events
High school trips
College parties
If something was happening, I was documenting it.
Being creative feels soothing and freeing — but also humbling. Sometimes you hit a block. You know something needs shifting, but you can’t quite see how to bring the vision to life.
Pregnancy has reminded me that creativity isn’t just about art. It’s about identity and intention — whether designing a nursery or documenting a wedding day in Bellevue or a family session in Issaquah.
What Running a Washington Photography Business While Pregnant Has Taught Me
Let’s talk honestly about the first trimester.
I knew I’d be tired
I knew nausea was possible
I didn’t know nausea would actual effect me 24/7, 7-days a week throughout the entire first and some of my second trimester; and that I would be so tired that it would take me a few hours of laying on the couch just to build up energy to get some basic things done such as grocery shopping, cleaning or playing with my pups.
This forced me to pivot.
Instead of being a “yes to everything” business owner, I became more strategic. The limited energy I had needed to go toward projects and people that genuinely lit me up — like heartfelt Seattle weddings, cozy Poulsbo family sessions, or milestone celebrations in Puyallup.
Pregnancy shifted my focus from quantity to quality.
That’s shaping how I’ll approach 2026 and 2027 Washington wedding and family photography bookings, especially as I plan for maternity leave from August 2026 through early 2027.
This season isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing meaningful work, exceptionally well.
My Photography Style: Relaxed, Genuine, and Fun
If I had to describe my photography style in three words, it would be:
Relaxed. Genuine. Fun.
As a Bellevue and Seattle wedding photographer, my goal is never stiff posing or forced smiles. I want you to feel at home in your photos — whether we’re capturing waterfront views in Seattle, mountain backdrops near Issaquah, or in-home family sessions in Puyallup.
The moments that make me tear up and smile behind the camera?
When a couple locks eyes and you can see the love radiating between them
When siblings meet their new baby brother
When families embrace the chaos instead of fighting it
That’s what I’m honored to photograph — genuine emotion.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about connection.
My approach goes beyond “pretty photos.” I care deeply about lighting and composition — but even more about earning your trust and creating a safe, comfortable space where you can fully be yourself.
That’s when your images feel timeless.
Balancing Corporate Life, Creativity & Motherhood in the Pacific Northwest
Next week, I begin a new corporate role here in Washington.
Balancing corporate life with being a Seattle-area photographer takes intention.
For me, balance looks like:
• Advocating for myself in both spaces
• Structuring my week with clear focus days
• Protecting energy for weddings and family sessions
• Prioritizing communication with clients
Some days it’s 30 minutes answering emails from couples planning 2027 weddings in Bellevue.
Some evenings it’s preparing galleries for Issaquah families.
One weekend day is dedicated to setting my business up for success for the week ahead.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about sustainability — especially as I step into motherhood.
The Kind of Clients Who Feel Like “My People”
My people:
• Don’t take themselves too seriously
• Embrace imperfect, real moments
• Value connection over perfection
• Want photos that feel natural and true
Whether you’re planning a wedding in Seattle, celebrating an anniversary in Poulsbo, or booking family photos in Puyallup, I believe the beauty lives in the in-between.
The giggles
The movement
The emotion
If you’re looking for a Washington wedding or family photographer serving Bellevue, Issaquah, Seattle, Puyallup, Poulsbo, and more surrounding areas who prioritizes comfort and authenticity — we’ll likely be a wonderful fit.
Looking Ahead: 2026 & 2027 Washington Wedding & Family Photography
As I step into this next chapter — growing our baby, starting a new corporate role, and refining my business — my focus is clear:
Intentional weddings
Emotion-filled family sessions
Quality over quantity
I’m currently booking a limited number of weddings, family sessions, and special events across Bellevue, Seattle, Issaquah, Puyallup, Poulsbo, and surrounding Washington areas before my maternity leave in August 2026; with more availability reopening in 2027.
If you’re planning a wedding or documenting your growing family, I would be honored to capture it for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via a inquiry form (which you can find on each respective package page) or via email at ariel@alwayscelebratingphotography.com.
